Now touch the tip of your soldering iron to the
tip of your lightly unwound solder. You only
need to touch the tip of your soldering iron
into the flux every once in a while, not every
single time. The solder should almost instant-
ly melt and be transferred to the tip of your
soldering iron.
The flux on the wires will help pull the solder
in between the strands of metal, binding the
multiple strands into one.
Run the tip lightly up the wire, about three
quarters of the way up, taking care not to
touch the outer casing and melt it. Don’t hold
the hot soldering iron to the wire for a long
period of time as the solder will continue to
stay liquid and seep through the wires. As
soon as you’ve transferred the solder to the
wires, pull the iron away from it and the solder
will immediately begin to solidify.
This process is called tinning. Tinning is important for prepping your wires for insertion into
electrical terminals like DB25s or terminal blocks and before soldering electrical wires to your
tracks.
Now your wires are prepped and ready to be used.
