Jerry Brettschneider had no idea the im-
mense impact he would have in the model
railroading community when he and his
friends first gathered together during a historic
snowstorm in January 1947. Snowbound and
bored, Jerry invited a few of his friends over
to play with his model train set. As the fat wet
flakes fell, this small group of boys, led by
Jerry, formed more than just a lifelong bond:

they formed what would be known as The
Lionel Railroad Club.
But let’s back up. Born on the south side
of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Jerry was no
stranger to long, cold winters. In fact, he was
quite the veteran at walking uphill in six feet
of snow to go to school and uphill in ten feet
of snow to go home at the end of the day.
