Bill’s contribution to history was not only
measured in the amount of photographs he had
acquired. It became more to him than a 2D
picture, it became something to be researched,
studied. While he railfanned, he would pass
the slow hours between trains by pulling out
his books. Often times he would buy two or
three copies of the same book. One to keep,
one to read and, often, a third to give away.
By the time he got to showing off his photos,
he knew everything there was to know about
the locomotive, the parent railroad and, occa-
sionally, the crew.
Bill was an amazing teacher, a fantastic
photographer, a talented modeler and a great
friend. He encouraged many people to begin
hobbies of their own, be it model railroading
or photography and there is no value that can
be attached to what Bill meant to those that
knew him. * Bill Bedell shooting trucks in the snow.
